Tilcon is a leading supplier of crushed stone in the New York City metro area, central and northern New Jersey, and the Hudson Valley markets. Our trap rock, granite and limestone crushed stone products are used in a wide variety of construction applications as well as in the asphalt, concrete and block industries.
Crushed stone is produced by blasting and then crushing to a specified size in stationary or portable plants. Blasting quarry walls produces large rocks which need to be crushed into smaller ones in order to be useful. Large rocks are transported by haul truck from the blast site to a primary crusher within a quarry, where they are crushed into smaller sizes. Some quarries may also operate a secondary crusher. From there, they are transported on conveyors to screens where they are separated into rocks of various sizes. Crushed stone for construction is sold by size, depending upon the application for which it is to be used.
Tilcon quarries hold trap rock, granite gneiss and limestone.
Tilcon crushed stone products are subject to rigorous quality control testing. Testing methods include sieve analysis, grading, and specific gravity. Each of our locations has its own QC lab which continously monitors and tests materials produced at the site for quality.
